Raid: Shadow Legends
Released: February 2019Community rating: 4.2 / 5
Our rating: ★★★★★
Of course, we're a bit biased. We love Raid Shadow Legends so much we built a whole website for the game! With beautiful graphics, well crafted Champions, and a level of customization that's a level above other games, we think Raid: Shadow Legends is a must-play for every fan of RPGs, tactical / turn-based games, and fans of champion collectors. It's not perfect, but it's close, and it continues to get better over time.
What we like:
- Champion customization (with gear) unlike any other game of its genre
- Amazing graphics & visuals
- Incredible character design
- Combat strategy fun and challenging
- Progression feels rewarding
- Cool lore & story (has untapped depth)
- Ability to play on both PC and mobile
What could be better:
- RNG is unforgiving, and you'll be forgiven for wanting to rage-quit after a shard pull
- Many of the Champions are just useless
- Upgrading gear is a royal pain in the ass
- Getting stuck with dupe legendary champs...
- Ads on start-up can multiply a tad too much

Summoners War
Released: June 2014Community rating: 4.3 / 5
Our rating: ★★★★★
Summoners War is widely considered the grandaddy of the genre, and it helped propel tons of copycats and wannabes into the market. It's masterfully done and has, for the most part, done a good job standing the test of time. Though the visuals are starting to feel a bit dated after 6 years, they're still a good quality. What really makes Summoners War shine is the amount of customization and sheer quantity of things to do. There are >1000 monsters to collect (maybe too many?) and tons of areas and game modes to explore. The rewards are good too. All in all this game is probably the one you played before Raid, and if it's not then you should definitely download and try it.
What we like:
- Tons of customization for monsters and even your base
- Quantity and variety of areas
- Huge collection of monsters, and good variety of different abilities across them
- Gameplay and combat is fun and fast
- Great balance for both F2P and P2P players
What could be better:
- Visuals starting to feel dated
- UI a bit clunky, maybe also a sign of age?
- Some areas of the game still in need of some QoL improvements even after years in the market (e.g. Rune upgrade system)

Age of Magic
Released: September 2018Community rating: 4.5 / 5
Our rating: ★★★★✰
Age of Magic has great looking heroes, an above-average story (let's face it, many of these games have very lame storylines), some interesting game modes (the clan battles are quite fun), and is also rather challenging. It's close to a 5-star game for us, but there's some lack of champion customization that felt like it blocked progress after a while. Still worth a look for fans of turn-based RPGs.
What we like:
- Beautiful graphics
- Fun storyline
- Good combat strategy
- Fun clan raid
- Decent customization
What could be better:
- Overall lack of customization
- Overpowered Champions / imbalance
- Upgrading gear is a pain in the ass
- Get stuck with nothing to do over time
- Too many "coming soon" parts that never come
- Not enough heroes

Calibria: Crystal Guardians
Released: January 2020Community rating: 4.3 / 5
Our rating: ★★★✰✰
Calibria Crystal Guardians is a relatively new game on the scene, and it's showing some promise. However, players are still reporting quite a few bugs in the game, as well as a generally sluggish UI that's driving some away till it gets better. Meanwhile however, some are sticking around to enjoy fun graphics, cool characters, a pretty good amount of customization including the ability to select your heroes' skills, as well as a lot to do and keep you busy.
What we like:
- Decent, but not amazing, graphics
- Cool character design
- Lots of different areas, hard to run out of stuff to do
- Decent amount of customization (runes, skills, etc.)
- Developer seems to be listening to the community and improving over time
What could be better:
- Graphics are decent, not amazing
- Gamplay and controls a bit sluggish, choppy menus and long load times
- Too many distractions (many uninteresting)
- A bit buggy - hope that'll improve soon
- Bad summon rates
- Terrible voice acting...would be better if they simply removed it...

Crystalborne: Heroes of Fate
Released: February 2020Community rating: 4.1 / 5
Our rating: ★★★★✰
Crystalborne Heroes of Fate is another game released in 2020 that's been getting some decent attention. It's set in a sort of sci-fi meets medieval magic world which is rather cool. Heroes look pretty amazing and there are TONS of things to do (bit too many perhaps?). The degree of customization is pretty good too. Though there's a tutorial, it's also rather easy to get lost due to sheer number of stuff vying for your attention. This'll take some investment to get into fully, and it very well may be worth it. We'll keep a close eye on this one.
What we like:
- Incredible graphics and character design
- Characters well designed and with interesting skills
- Cool overall and character stories
- Deep customization (characters + base)
- Complex to get into (may be a con for some)
- Combat system well designed
What could be better:
- Though graphics are great, they're also sometimes a bit choppy
- Infinite menus and options make for a slightly confusing UI
- Customization is there, but it's not intuitive
- Research concept is cool but time consuming without feeling rewarding
- Clan territory battles feels very clunky
- Feels pretty "pay to win" at the moment

Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes
Released: November 2015Community rating: 4.3 / 5
Our rating: ★★★★✰
One of the originals of the genre, Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes set the tone for a lot of the games to come, and inspired many amazing games (as well as many copycats). If you're into SW lore, this is the game to get. It's worth a run for anyone who likes tactical battles and character evolution, and has aged rather well overall. The biggest issue in our humble opinion is the "meta". Certain heroes are simply game-breakingly overpowered, and typically only available if you're paying for packs, which gives a "meh" feeling to some of the events and areas. Overall however, this game's great and if you somehow haven't tried it yet then it's worth checking out.
What we like:
- One of the fathers of the genre - witness history!
- Amazing characters deeply rooted in SW lore
- Great graphics, particularly for a 2015 game
- Uniqueness of heroes and skills is amazing
- Battles are fun and strategic, and character synergies are particularly interesting
What could be better:
- Overpowered heroes cause imbalance and P2W feel
- Loading screens rather slow which starts to wear on daily players
- Grind gets repetitive over time, and the end-game isn't particularly fun after a short while
- Recent content has been a bit lazy and boring, and updates infrequent and lackluster

Disney Sorcerer's Arena
Released: March 2020Community rating: 4.1 / 5
Our rating: ★★★★✰
Disney Sorcerer's Arena is a great game that was released just recently and shows a lot of promise. Yes, it does feel a lot like a Disney version of SWGOH (and yes it's not lost on us that Star Wars is part of Disney, but this is basically every character except the SW ones). The graphics are beautiful, the characters follow the lore of their movies closely and have meaningful synergies, and there are lots of cool little nuggets. Customization seems a bit lackluster however, but this is another one to keep on the radar.
What we like:
- Beautiful graphics and character & UI design
- Disney lore well respected
- Meaningful synergies between characters
- Fun twists like combat spells
- Lots to do - keeps you busy!
What could be better:
- Customization a bit lacking, making characters and combat feel somewhat limited
- Feels "linear" - gotta progress the way the game wants you to, rather than how you want to
- Hard to escape the "SWGOH skin" feel
- No SW characters??

Idle Arena: Evolution Legends
Released: Early AccessCommunity rating: / 5
Our rating: ★★★✰✰
Idle Arena Evolution Legends is a game that's currently (as of May 2020) in Early Access. It caught our eye due to the cool visuals and so far we're pretty impressed. Note however that it takes "idle" seriously, which means you don't control your champs once they go into combat. However planning, equipping, and positioning them ahead of a battle has a meaningful impact on battle. The graphics are impressive and there's a variety of different modes, but the variety of heroes is underwhelming at the moment, and several features are still locked. It has potential so we'll revisit it at a later date.
What we like:
- Great visuals and awesome hero design
- Variety of game play good despite idle combat
- Summon rates pretty good - after a few weeks we have some (un-evolved) heroes of high caliber
- Idle rewards quite good
What could be better:
- Would need to be able to control heroes to ever get to 5 stars
- Evolution is fun but gets repetitive
- Hit a wall rather fast, and then it's just waiting as strategy only takes you so far without combat control
- Hero variety needs to improve
- Hero evolution gets very tedious (LOTS of food required to get higher star levels)

Destiny Summoner
Released: October 2018Community rating: 4.6 / 5
Our rating: ★★✰✰✰
We tried this one because of the great user ratings, and because of the old school feel it seems to have. However it just seems to be lacking on too many levels to really make the cut at the moment. Unbalanced heroes, clunky UI, unremarkable visuals and combat just don't make up for some of the niceties of the game.
What we like:
- Cool "old school RPG" feel
- Idle upgrading makes grind more manageable
- High summoning rates
What could be better:
- Very average visually (despite the old school feel)
- Super clunky UI
- General feeling of the game is tedious after a short while
- Technical and server issues are frequent
- P2W wall is pretty clear

Dragon Champions
Released: August 2019Community rating: 4.3 / 5
Our rating: ★★★★✰
Dragon Champions was released in late 2019 and immediately attracted the attention of many Raid Shadow Legends players. While the graphics and aesthetics are quite different (bit more cartoony), it's set in a similar type of medieval magical world and many of the mechanics are quite similar. In a way it's a hybrid between somethign like SWGOH and RSL. While it lacks some customization that we'd like to see, there are tons of events, cool heroes, and lots of ways for both F2P and paying players to move along and have fun. And the story's above-average. This could turn into a 5-star game with time.
What we like:
- Heroes are all quite different, with cool skills and interesting synergies
- Well constructed storyline and character back stories, including some good humor sprinkled in
- Variety of areas keeps you busy
- Rune system provides good customization
- Lots of quality loot makes grind rewarding
- 4x speed! Every game needs this!
What could be better:
- Gaphics a bit too cartoony
- Battles can feel slow and tedious
- Feels like a medieval SWGOH skin
- Grind gets hard early if you don't pull good heroes (or dupes to evolve your existing ones) from chests
- Few heroes (60 at the time of this writing), but all quite unique
- Luck plays too significant a role in combat outcome

The Seven Deadly Sins: Grand Cross
Released: January 2020Community rating: 4.5 / 5
Our rating: ★★★★✰
WOW. This is another one to watch. It's farily recent and our first impression is that it's packed with interesting features and could be one that some users will fall in love with. It has a unique feel, including a battle system unlike other games on this list, and attractive visuals that make it really stand out. The storyline is also pretty engaging and frankly quite fun as well. Finally it seems pretty strong on the hero diversity and customization angles. It is very inspired by JRPGs which means you'll be tasked with doing odd menial tasks like gathering materials or serving drinks as quests - this may be fun for some and boring for others. All in all though "7DS" is a game to keep an eye on.
What we like:
- An "all in one" feel that combines many different styles and modes into a single game
- Lots of depth (story, things to do, etc.)
- The art and heroes are beautiful
- Combat system different and engaging
- Lots of customization
What could be better:
- If you don't like doing random tasks like cooking to get points/rewards you may get bored
- Gameplay and UX a bit choppy at times, needs performance tuning
- Resource system currently imbalanced
- Bad balance between P2P and F2P as well as global vs. JP players

DC Legends: Battle For Justice
Released: November 2016Community rating: 4.3 / 5
Our rating: ★★★✰✰
Yup, this is basically SWGOH with a DC comics skin. BUT it's legitimately a good game, especially if you love the DC universe or if you haven't spent too much time with a game like SWGOH (otherwise you'll need more of a difference to keep you entertained). Customization is a bit sparse and it's starting to feel dated to us, which is why we gave it 3 stars.
What we like:
- Great character design and battle animations
- Hero uniqueness is well done
- Team building mechanics and synergies
- Easy to quickly pick up and go
What could be better:
- Extreme imbalance in P2P heroes
- Balance issue particularly notable in the PvP arena
- Many players complaining about unfulfilled purchases and other technical issues
- Becomes quite repetitive, particularly for ex-SWGOH players
- Quite slow and laggy, particularly compared to other games in the genre
