Borgoth the Scarab King – Guide and Best Champions
HOW TO BEAT BORGOTH
Basic strategy:
The key to beating Borgoth the Scarab King is to decrease his MAX HP (either with skills that do this, or with Destroy gear), to keep a Shield on your team while attacking him so that he doesn’t counter and kill you, and to have high enough RESIST so he doesn’t constantly steal or remove buffs.
One of the most achievable ways to defeat Borgoth is to bring along Vergis who can relatively easily solo the boss. See the team composition notes below for stats required to solo Borgoth at the highest levels of DT Hard.
Alternatively, you’ll need to bring in enough Shields to slowly draw Borgoth down while staying alive.
Team composition:
The team composition I use, which beats the toughest Borgoth in DT Hard:
- Seer (lead): Used purely to help me get through the waves more quickly and her team aura adds 40 RESIST to Vergis.
- Vergis: The reason Vergis can solo Borgoth is his passive, which places a Shield on him when he gets hit and Continuous Heal when his HP drops below 50%. This can keep him alive for the entire fight while he slowly whittles down Borgoth. To make sure this doesn’t take hours, have a Destroy set on him. You can also pick to go down the Offense tree and give him Warmaster which will speed up the fight, though the Defense and Support trees help with survivability. I’d start with Defense and Support if you’re struggling, then make your way to Offense if you want to speed up the fight. Have enough SPD so you’re not getting lapped by Borgoth (>200), enough RESIST so he’s not stealing your buffs (>400), and then go as high as you can on HP and DEF. Note that, in order to not expose Vergis, you should have him avoid using his A2 while others in the team are alive as that’ll put on an Ally Protection which could end up killing Vergis. Best is to have the others all set up to help clear waves and then die when they get to Borgoth. You can also set up the AI to prevent Vergis from using his A2.
- Iron Brago: Used for his passive, which gives Vergis some extra DEF.
- Coldheart (x2): Used for waves.

With the right gear, you can build a team with entirely Rare and Uncommon Champions and beat the toughest Borgoth. Here’s an alternative comp (no Legos and no Void Epic/Legendary, and no Vergis) which focuses on 3 champs for survivability and 2 champs for damage / turn meter control:
- Draconis: Draconis helps heal your team with his A1, places a Shield on all allies, and also removes debuffs. Great support to keep the team alive.
- Metalshaper: Metalshaper is a great add for a consistent, low cooldown team Shield.
- Valerie: Valerie is awesome for Borgoth, as she brings Shield, heals Champions, and even increases the duration of buffs to ensure your team stays properly shielded throughout the fight.
- Armiger (x2): Armiger here should be in Destroy set and his purpose is to damage and reduce the Turn Meter of Borgoth. Set him up with high DEF and SPD so he can go quickly and hit hard. If you’re struggling, have him only use his A1 which is slower but will reduce Borgoth’s Turn Meter.
Alternatively you could also bring in someone like Apothecary to speed up the team and give more healing, or Reliquary Tender to help with healing and revives (though if you’re reviving it tends to mean you’re down to your last straw). If you have someone like Doompriest to help remove debuffs and do consistent healing that’s great as well.
Other notes:
- Keep in mind that, with Borgoth’s A2, he will be placing extra hits for every buff you have. This means it’s not necessarily a good idea to have lots of buffs, particularly as his extra hits can steal/remove buffs. If you do have team comps that put lots of buffs, make sure you also have very high RESIST.
- If you’re struggling with team order in the first round of the fight (e.g. your fastest champ isn’t the one setting Shields) consider having a Shield set on one of your Champions or one of the Divine sets on your fastest Champ so you start off with Shields.
- At the higher levels you can’t really brute force Borgoth, so just plan on consistency and survivability and, although it’ll take a while (mine initially took about 20 minutes when I cracked it) you’ll still manage to pull him down.
BORGOTH THE SCARAB KING SKILLS
- A1: Madness Fog [ATK]. Attacks all enemies. Places a 50% [Decrease ATK] and a 30% [Decrease SPD] debuff for 2 turns. Places an extra hit on enemies with no [Shield] buff. The extra hit places a [Provoke] debuff for 1 turn.
- A2: Vile Absorption [ATK]. Attacks all enemies. Places an extra hit on each enemy for each buff on the target. Each extra hit steals one random buff from enemies that have no [Shield] buff and removes one random buff from enemies under [Shield] buff. Places [True Fear] debuff for 1 turn on enemies who have buffs stolen and a [Fear] debuff for 1 turn on enemies who have buffs removed.
- Passive 1: Spectral Horror. Decreases the damage received according to how much Borgoth’s MAX HP has been decreased. Damage received is decreased by:
- 90% if Borgoth’s Max HP has been decreased less than 10%.
- 60% if Borgoth’s Max HP has been decreased between 10% and 20%.
- 30% if Borgoth’s Max HP has been decreased between 20% and 30%.
- 0% if Borgoth’s Max HP has been decreased less than 30%.
- Passive 2: Easy Prey. Counterattacks when attacked by enemy that has no [Shield] buff.
- Passive 3: Almighty Immunity. Immune to [Stun], [Freeze], [Sleep], [Provoke], [Block Cooldown Skills], [Fear] and [True Fear] debuffs. Also immune to HP exchange effects, HP balancing effects and cooldown increasing effects.
- Passive 4: Almighty Strength. Damage from skills that scale based on enemy MAX HP cannot exceed 10% of the boss’ MAX HP when attacking the boss.
- Passive 5: Almighty Persistence. All Turn Meter reduction effects are reduced by 50% when used against the Boss.
